ROTJ Decals Empty
PostSubject: ROTJ Decals   ROTJ Decals I_icon_minitimeFri May 27, 2011 9:58 pm

Working in conjunction with a UK professional prop maker I have commissioned these ROTJ decals.

Using a scan of an original set of decals I obtained from a friend in the USA we have tried to get as close to the original set as possible.

These will be layered like the originals and on black stickyback vinyl. They will also fit the JoeR CfO ROTJ helmet perfectly as we have had fitting issues with the existing TE ROTJ based sets.

Any feedback would be appreciated and please be ultra critical LSD bros we want to get this right! These can still be changed at this stage.

Joe

Ps: We will do a silk screened version but they are pricey as it is old school!

Very nice. I see there is still a size difference between the right and left rear trap decal. Is that really accurate?

Is this made from the original helmet I think it is, or from another one?

Beautifull work. The color seems to be the real deal. But as Carsten noticed, it's strange to see a difference between the rear trap decals.

These are the rough ones I traced from my helmet cast. Of course, there is some doubt whether it was actually molded and cast from a screen used helmet, but the decals seem fairly similar to the ones Joe posted, which could suggest they used a template for all the decals, making them all pretty much the same.

This is just a poor color example and there's a lot of guess work involved in the shapes, especially half the rear part of the tube decals - the bars in the rear traps, but they also have the 8 bars in one and 9 in the other, but they are near equal size to each other and not different like Joe's.

@ Carsten

I think the helmet your helmet copy originates from was not used close up on screen, it seems to be ESB Mk II moulds with the ANH/ESB wider face so may have been a deep background piece and may have been a refurbished ESB helmet. Although nothing is known for sure.

It is hard to tell but the decals do seem to be slightly different in size on some helmets and not on others, maybe it is perspective.

See screencaps:

You mean similar to the one in the ESB Vader photoshoot with the red background? That armor also has the upside down ab button detail panel and possibly even the white trim around the edges of the armor, though that part is a bit difficult to make out - but that suit is also seen in ESB candid pictures with some of the actors and there it definitely has the white trim. And I believe Troopermaster did spot a suit in ESB with the trim and the upside down ab detail, so they certainly were tinkering with what later became the RotJ look during ESB.

Do you trust the scans from that original helmet, then I would think you should go with those, over something like mine which has somewhat questionable screen used ties.
